Foreign secretary to leave for China tomorrow

The visit comes in the wake of the postponement of the third meeting of the Nepal-China bilateral consultative mechanism at the foreign secretary level scheduled to be held in Kathmandu.
Nepali officials said the regular bilateral meeting will take place in Kathmandu after a month.
According to a senior government official, the foreign secretary will take up in Beijing agendas including the review of progress in the implementation of the 10 agreements and memoranda of understanding signed during Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s visit to China in March. On Wednesday, Secretary Bairagi held a meeting with senior officials from several line ministries to take stock of the progress made in bilateral agendas. Reopening of the Tatopani border point that has remained closed since the earthquake last year and opening of two consular general offices in China are high on the agenda.
Finding ways to implement the deals signed during the PM’s China visit are on the agenda. Officials are expected to discuss the protocol of the transit agreement with
China with the two sides requiring to form a team to spell out the use of Chinese routes by Nepal.
