At least nine families were displaced by floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in Darchula on Saturday.
Malikarjun, Kakada, Sarmoli, Bhagawati and Uku villages were heavily affected by floods and landslides. Deputy Superintendent of Police Sushil Singh Rathour at the District Police Office said police teams have been mobilised in the disaster-hit areas to take stock of the situation. Landslides at Malikarjun and Sarmoli villages on Thursday had resulted in two deaths. Meanwhile, police continued to search for the woman who went missing in a landslide that struck Api Municipality on Friday.
In Nawalparasi district, a dozen VDCs are facing flood danger as the water level has increased in Narayani River because of continuous rainfall. District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee has urged the people living close to the river to stay alert. In Dhading, police rescued 14 people who were trapped after a landslide at Ree village. Twenty one people were trapped after the village was caught in a landslide on Thursday night.
The remote villages in northern Dhading have been cut off from the district headquarters for the last five days because of several landslides in the region.
In Syangja, many villagers living near Adhikhola, Jyagdikhola and Kaligandagi rivers have fled their homes owing to flood and landslide threats. Floods and landslides have also obstructed several roads in Parbat, Gulmi and Lamjung districts.
Stones dislodge from cliff, two hurt
BHARATPUR: Stones dislodged from a cliff along the Narayanghat-Muglin stretch injured a bus driver and his assistant on Saturday. Police said the two men sustained serious injuries in the incident. They are undergoing treatment in Kathmandu. Meanwhile, vehicular movement along the Narayanghat-Muglin road continued to be disrupted by landslides on Saturday, causing inconveniences for the travellers. Police said 18 landslides have taken place along the road because of rain and ongoing road expansion works.
