Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) helped the hospital set up the 3,000-watt capacity solar electricity plant.
On June 26, the Post had reported the problems faced by the hospital because of intermittent power supply. Essential vaccines worth around Rs 2 million stored at the hospital were damaged because of frequent power cuts. The vaccines were enough to inoculate 2,000 children against many diseases.
“Now we don’t have to rely on others for electricity,” said Dr Bishnu Khatiwada, the hospital chief.
Lawmaker Lal Bahadur Rawal had taken the initiative to provide solar solution to the hospital.
Hospital technician Asik Kumar Mahato said that with eight large power holding batteries, the hospital can generate sufficient electricity to light the hospital rooms and run the medical equipment.
The hospital had started experiencing electricity problems three months ago with the reconstruction works at Surma Devi Hydropower Project.
