Lawmakers speaking at the ‘zero hour’ of Parliament on Tuesday called for turning the House into a place from where instructions are issued to the concerned offices for solution, rather than making it a place for outpouring of grievances.

Some parliamentarians shared their views with questions while others stood up in silence for a minute as a symbolic protest because their demands delivered during the zero hour and special time had gone unheard.

The lawmakers were of common view regarding the mandatory support needed from all sides in addressing the woes of the earthquake victims, monsoon-triggered landslides and flooding, issues related to bridges and irrigation canals, construction of dams and the issues concerning the Tarai-Madhes.

At the zero hour, lawmakers Ram Chandra Pokhrel, Ram Krishna Yadav, Rajeshwori Rai, Ram Narayan Bidari, Ram Hari Subedi and Radha Krishna Paneru drew the attention of the government and Parliament on resolving the local problems.

Gopal Dahit took time from the House Speaker at the start of the session to prod the government, Parliament and the main opposition to be serious about addressing the demands raised by the Sanghiya Gathabandhan including the fringe parties from Madhes.

He reiterated their objection to the new constitution passed last year before announcing to boycott the meeting for the day.

Lawmakers affiliated with the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha and the Gathabandhan walked out of Parliament following the announcement.
