As many as 130 Nepali migrants working for different companies in Qatar have been left in the lurch for the past 16 days after the manager of the companies they worked for “ran away”.
They were working for Al Sahaba Building Construction, Asasa Engineering, Insight Advanced Construction and Paradise Trading and Supplies companies in Sanaya-18. According to workers, all these companies were managed by someone called Mishri. “Our condition has worsened after Mishri ran away, leaving us stranded,” said Pahalman Pun of Rolpa. Workers said they have not received salary and other allowances since April.
The workers on June 23 had approached the Embassy of Nepal in Qatar to seek help.
Krishna Bahadur Tamang of Jhapa said the workers had to spend 550 riyals to prepare the necessary documents to lodge the complaint at the embassy.
“We want to return home as soon as possible,” they said.
Gopilal Karki of Morang said the stranded Nepalis have run out of money. “We don’t have money to buy air tickets,” said Karki.
An official at the embassy said the mission will soon take appropriate measure to rescue the migrant workers.
