During an inspection carried out by a joint monitoring team led by Department of Supply Management (DoSM) on Wednesday, the company’s factory in the Patan Industrial Estate was found to not have complied with hygiene standards.
“The prepared foods were spoiled with dead houseflies and other dirty substances and the surrounding of production plants also lack proper cleaning,” states the department’s report.
The company was also found using contaminated water for producing sweets and operating without renewing its business and food producing licences. According to the department, the inspection team destroyed 1.5 litres of contaminated ghee from the plat.
Laxman Shrestha, director of the department, said they took the action against Pashupati Foods as the company failed to maintain hygiene standards, posing risk to customers.
The DoSM has directed the company to be present with renewed operating licences by next week.
This is not the first time Aagan has been found guilty. Last September too, an inspection team had sealed the company’s production plant in Gyaneshwor, Kathmandu. The company had been charged for operating without license, besides failing to maintain hygiene in its production unit and warehouse.
