With the Bhotekoshi river continuously causing land erosion in the Kodari Bazaar area in Sindhupalchok district, settlements near the river are still facing threat.
At least 66 houses have been swept away by the flooded river since July 5.
Armed Police Force (APF) DSP Manoj Thapa said houses close the river banks face risk of crumbling or being
swept away.
“In Tatopani, over 25 houses have been swept away,” said DSP Thapa.
Though water levels have receded, people living along the Araniko Highway are still far from safety.
Inspector Raju Pandey, who is posted at Barhabise, said people living near the river must remain alert in view of possible flash floods.
The highway too has been obstructed after road sections at various parts were swept away by the flooded river.
Kami Sherpa, a local, said villagers could face
acute shortage of food and other essentials. “The authorities must realise the problems people are facing here,” he said.
People living in Gati, Marming, Phulpingkatti, Listi and Tatopani have been cut off from Chautara, the district headquarters.
“There’s still risk of
landslides in the Jure-Tatopani stretch,” said SP Rabindra KC.
