Grande International Hospital has successfully conducted a kidney transplant on a 38-year old man.
This is the first time a private health institution in the country has performed kidney transplantation. The state-run Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital and Bir Hospital were the only ones that offered kidney transplantation service before.
Dr Chakra Raj Pandey, medical director of Grande, said the patient received a kidney from his sister and both were doing fine after the surgery. They are expected to be discharged in a few days, Dr Pandey added.
The team that conducted the surgery included Dr Prem Raj Gyawali, Dr Dibya Singh Shah, and Dr Murari Raj Upreti.
