Nembang is said to have assured Dahal that the new government would be formed according to the constitutional provision. While Nembang could not be reached for confirmation, Dahal informed the Maoist headquarters of his meeting with the former speaker. It was not immediately clear if Nembang met Dahal at the behest of Prime Minister Oli.
Deputy leader of the UML Parliamentary Party, Nembang met Dahal at the latter’s residence on Sunday, sources said. Dahal informed Maoist leaders about Nembang’s call for restraint and mending the ties between the two leftist parties.
“The two parties need to work together for a long time [to come],” Dahal quoted Nembang as saying, according a Maoist leader. Dahal got assurances that the new government would be formed by following the due constitutional process.
Meanwhile, the meeting of the Maoist Headquarters discussed ways to make concerted efforts to implement the party’s decision to form a new government with the backing of the Nepali Congress.
Senior Maoist leader Barshaman Pun said Sunday’s meeting discussed the importance of the party remaining one in implementing the decision to form a new coalition with the NC. Many leaders criticised the leadership for keeping them in the dark about the deal reached with the largest party.
In the meeting, Maoist leader Ram Bahadur Thapa questioned Dahal about the lack of decision-making system in the party. The meeting also discussed the possible role of the President in government formation, Mani Thapa said.
