Bhusal and his family members collected a cheque for that amount from News Editor of Kantipur daily Hari Bahadur Thapa at a function on Wednesday.
“I had not imagined I would win a cash prize this big just subscribing to the newspaper,” said an elated Bhusal, a 10th grader at Nawalpur Higher Secondary Boarding School.
He came to Kathmandu on Tuesday morning to receive the amount. His father Tika Prasad Bhusal, 40, is e-rickshaw driver. He had opened ‘Google Stationary’ in Chormara-7 in Madyabindu Municipality for his wife. He has two sons and a daughter.
Last Friday, Tika was upset as his business had been badly hit due to rain which had been continuously lashing for three days.
“I was staying at home, frustrated at a lean business. Then I had a call from my brother Khimananda Pathak, who lives in Kathmandu. When he informed me about the prize, I didn’t believe him at first,” said Tika. “This comes as a great relief to the family.”
Asked about his plans after winning the prize, Tanka said he would pay off Rs400,000 he had borrowed to buy the rickshaw and use the rest of the amount for his children’s education.
