Viral fever, diarrhoea afflict flood victims
Viral fever and diarrhoea outbreaks have affected many flood victims in Banke. Around 100 people received treatment at the Sonbarsha Community Health Centre on Friday alone. Three victims suffering from diarrhoea are undergoing treatment at Bheri Zonal Hospital.
District Public Health Office said medical teams have been deployed to the affected villages. Ram Bahadur Chand, the focal person of epidemiology section at Bheri Zonal Hospital, said medical teams were having difficulty reaching some of the villages, including Phattepur, due to continuous flooding.
Meanwhile, the flood victims at Gangapur VDC picketed the VDC office on Friday, demanding relief materials. They have claimed that the local authorities have not sent any help or assistance even three days after the flood which displaced 24 families.
462 Pyuthan families displaced
Four hundred and sixty-two families at 13 VDCs in Pyuthan have been displaced by landslides. According to the District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee, 170 families from Phopli VDC and 113 families from Arkha VDC were moved to safer locations because of multiple landslides in the areas. The committee said at least 38 people died in landslides caused by heavy rain since Monday night. Chief District Officer Janakraj Panta said they are still assessing the damage caused by the landslides.
In Sunsari, the Koshi river flood has threatened around 12,200 homes at Srilanka Tappu. The rain-swollen river has already washed around 2,000 bighas of land in the area, locals said.
Three children drown in culvert
Three children drowned in a culvert at Bhagwanpur in Rupandehi on Thursday evening. Police said Bikki Singh, Aatish Baniya and Shyamlal Kahar of Bhagwanpur drowned while swimming in the culvert.
