Nine dead, 31 injured in Makwanpur road accident
A Kathmandu-bound bus had tried to overtake a truck averting potholes
Aug 1, 2016-Nine persons died and 31 others sustained injuries when two passenger buses collided head-on at Manahari-3 along East-West Highway in Makwanpur district on Saturday night. Four of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
Police said the incident happened as the Kathmandu-bound bus tried to overtakea truck averting potholes on the road. The bus (Na 5 Kha 4064) heading to the Capital from Kakadvitta collided head-on with the Gaighat-bound bus (Na 5 Kha 5055) at around midnight.
According to police, six persons died on the spot, two passed away while being taken to hospital and one succumbed to injuries during treatment. The drivers of both the vehicles were injured in the incident.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Bamdev Gautam said seven deceased have been identified. Five bodies were handed to the families, he said. The injured are receiving treatment at Chure Hill Hospital in the district. Sixteen among the injured returned home following the treatment.
