Court order against animal slaughter
Aug 5, 2016-
The Supreme Court has issued an order to the government to stop the cruel act of sacrificing animals during the Gadhimai Fair.
A division bench of Justices Ishwori Prasad Khatiwada and Anil Kumar Sinha on Thursday directed the government to form a special committee and take appropriate measures to halt the inhuman act of slaughtering animals at Gadhimai, said Bishworaj Poudel, co-spokesperson for the apex court.
“People need to be made aware that slaughtering animals is not a good deed,” read the decision. Slaughtering animals in mass is not a good thing from the view point of the environment as well.
Advocate Arjun Kumar Aryal had, in November 2014, filed a petition demanding writ against sacrifices at Gadhimai. The PM’s Office and the Gadhimai Temple Management Committee were named as the defendants.
