From light grey to dark grey
Unlike other prime ministers, who usually appear in traditional Daura Suruwal during the swearing-in ceremony, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday was clad in a dark grey suit and white shirt with a traditional Nepali cap as he took the oath of office from the President as the 39th prime minister of the country.Unlike other prime ministers, who usually appear in traditional Daura Suruwal during the swearing-in ceremony, CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday was clad in a dark grey suit and white shirt with a traditional Nepali cap as he took the oath of office from the President as the 39th prime minister of the country. Dahal’s choice of dress on Thursday seemed continuation to his last one in 2008 when he had taken the oath of office as the first prime minister of republic Nepal. Last time he had chosen a light grey suit. This time the tie was missing.
Some were quick to comment on Dahal’s “easy going look”, with Dipendra Jha, an advocate, tweeting: “@PM_Nepal your oath dress gives message of diversity & multi cultural identity imagined by constitution. Thanks, good start is half done.”
Dahal when first came over-ground in 2006 after the decade-long insurgency, he was seen wearing a light grey safari suit, which later became the party uniform for some years.
Hence, what Dahal would wear during swearing-in ceremony as the prime minister in in 2008 was keenly followed then.
