The meeting between the leaders of the two parties in the coalition also dwelt on negotiations with the agitating parties and induction of ministers from other parties that are supporting the government.
According to PM’s Personal Secretary Prakash Dahal, Prime Minister Dahal met Deuba at the latter’s residence in Budhanilkantha to discuss Cabinet discussion and other pertinent issues.
Deuba is learnt to have told PM Dahal that the NC will send the list of ministers as soon as the national convention of party’s student wing, Nepal Students’ Union (NSU), concludes.
NSU’s 11th three-day national convention, first in a decade, is set to start on Sunday.
Dahal, who has less than nine months in office before he hands over the government leadership to Deuba, wants to raise the bar and deliver tangible results this time, his aides say.
“It was a regular meeting with the chief of the major coalition partner,” Prakash Dahal said.
However, Ramesh Malla, also an aide to PM Dahal, said the two leaders have agreed to provide two ministers for Rastriya Prajatantra Party which had supported Dahal during the prime minister’s election on August 3.
The two leaders are also for bringing the agitating parties on board, according to Malla.
According to Deuba’s Personal Secretary Bhanu Deuba, the two leaders also discussed the three-point deal the governing CPN (Maoist Centre) and the NC have signed with the Sanghiya Gathabandhan and ways to implement it.
The Gathabandhan, an alliance of the Madhes-based and Janajati forces, had supported the Maoist-NC alliance to form the government on the basis of the three-point deal, as per which the Dahal-led government will address the agitating parties’ concerns.
Dahal, who was elected prime minister on Wednesday, has formed a six-member Cabinet so far, with both his party and the NC still yet to finalise the names of ministers.
As per an agreement, the Maoist Centre will keep nine ministries, including the Ministry of Finance (MoF), and the NC will have 13 ministries, including the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA).
MoF and MoHA have already been divided between the two parties. Dahal on Thursday had appointed five ministers—three from the Maoist Centre and two from the NC.
