Planned scooter launches to enliven festival season
MAW Enterprises, the authorised distributor of Yamaha two-wheelers, and D-lifestyles, the authorised dealer of Piaggio and Vespa two-wheelers in Nepal, have planned to launch new scooters in the Nepali market during the upcoming festival seasonMAW Enterprises, the authorised distributor of Yamaha two-wheelers, and D-lifestyles, the authorised dealer of Piaggio and Vespa two-wheelers in Nepal, have planned to launch new scooters in the Nepali market during the upcoming festival season.
MAW Enterprises is slated to roll out the Yamaha Ray-ZR, which was released in India recently, during the coming NADA Auto Show which is usually held before the Dashain festival in October.
The Ray-ZR has been touted as the “Next Generation Real Boy’s Scooter” in the Indian market and boasts several sporty elements like sharp lines, accentuated side panels, dual-tone color scheme and trendy body graphics. However, considering the high number of female scooter riders in Nepal, the company will not carry out focused marketing targeting only the male segment, company officials said.
The scooter is powered by a 113-cc, 2-valve, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine built with Blue Core Technology. The power train is claimed to have a high combustion efficiency providing a mileage of 66 kmpl.
“The Ray-ZR is set to rev up competition in the scooter segment,” said Deepak Rauniyar, assistant general manager at the Yamaha division. “The styling elements, masculine cuts and Yamaha’s engine which ensures a high rate of performance and durability make the upcoming Ray-ZR different from the competition.”
The two-wheeler has a fuel tank capacity of 5 litres and offers a large storage capacity of 21 litres, analog instrument cluster and tubeless tyres.
According to Rauniyar, Yamaha’s scooters have been enthusiastically accepted in the Nepali market. With the launch of the Fascino, Yamaha witnessed a steep growth of around 25 percent in the scooter segment. “The growth can be attributed to strong product focus and unique technologies.
The two variants of the Ray-ZR—with disc and drum brakes—will be priced at Rs191,900 and Rs183,900 respectively in the Nepali market. The two models will also feature a few different style elements.
Likewise, D-lifestyles has planned to pull the wraps off two new scooters—the Vespa GTS 300 and Vespa 946. The upcoming Vespa models will roll out before Dashain, company officials said.
The GTS 300 is equipped with a single-cylinder, 278-cc engine. Its fuel tank has a capacity of 9.1 litres. The machine delivers a top speed of 130 kmph. It features 220 mm disc brakes, both in the rear and the front, with two dual-effect shock absorbers in the rear suspension.
The scooter will be available in two shades, midnight blue and daring plum. The scooter is priced at IRs225,000 in India. The price in the Nepali market is yet to be fixed, company officials said.
Likewise, the Vespa 946 features a single-cylinder, four-stroke engine with catalytic converter and electronic fuel injection. The scooter has an 8.5-litre fuel tank and delivers a maximum speed of 93 kmph.
Other features include a full LCD multifunction instrument panel, 12-inch wheels and LED headlights and taillights.
“Demand for the Vespa 125 cc and 150 cc scooters is high in the domestic market,” said Sumit Timalsina, marketing manager of D-lifestyles. “Due to its unique design and long legacy, Vespa scooters have quickly gained a fair growth in the domestic market. As of the present, we have 12 colour options in the Vespa lineup.”
According to Timalsina, the company has observed great interest in the machine, and customers are willing to wait a month for delivery after booking it.
“We have also revised our growth projection in line with the swelling demand,” he said.
