Rights groups protest in support of Ganga Maya
Human rights activists organised a sit-in-protest in front of Prime Minister’s residence at Baluwatar on TuesdayHuman rights activists organised a sit-in-protest in front of Prime Minister’s residence at Baluwatar on Tuesday, demanding that the government save the life of Ganga Maya Adhikari who has been on indefinite hunger strike seeking justice over the murder of her son during decade-long Maoist insurgency.
During the protest programme organised by “save Ganga Maya campaign”, participants took to the streets carrying banners and placards demanding justice for her.
Ganga Maya, who is on her sixth hunger strike since August 11, has been receiving care at Bir Hospital after her condition deteriorated.
Ganga Maya, alongside her husband Nanda Prasad, had first staged a hunger strike six years ago. Nanda Prasad died in 2014 while fighting the battle for justice. Krishna Prasad, the couple’s youngest son, was abducted from Chitwan and later killed by the then Maoist cadres in 2004.
