Penner deportation case: Supreme Court defers hearing Post Report

- Post Report, Kathmandu

Sep 13, 2016-

The Supreme Court could not hear the deportation case of a Canadian national, Robert Penner, due to the time constraint as it was scheduled second last out of the 20 cases to be heard on Monday.

Penner was deported four months ago on the charge of “inciting disharmony through social media”. Besides, the Immigration Department claimed that

he obtained working visa for a Sprout Technology company but worked for Cloud Factory, a foreign outsourcing company. The hearing will verify the petitioner’s claim of forgery of a document that showed he had agreed to leave the country.

Responding to a writ petition, the apex court on May 23 had refused to issue a stay order against the decision to deport Penner, who was forced to leave the country as the Nepal government on May 3 ordered him to depart within two days.
