Floods displace 25 families in Kailali’s Sonahaphanta

The Sonahaphanta residents have been forced from their homes after the flooding caused by continuous rain. They are taking shelter out in the open on a postal road nearby. Dhauli Pariyar, one of the villagers, said at least 10 families have been displaced since Tuesday evening.
The flood affected families have been surviving on noodles and biscuits. They complained that the local administration has not sent any relief.
VDC Secretary Ambadatta Joshi said he was on a leave, and that he has instructed his staff to assess the damage and look after the need of the flood displaced families.
According to Jaya Prasad Dhungana, a VDC official, floods have destroyed paddy plantation in around 200 bighas of land while displacing at least 25 families. Dhungana admitted that the VDC office has not initiated any relief programme in the flood-affected areas so far.
