Three complaints have been filed at the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) against ambassador nominee Deep Kumar Upadhyay and one against Leela Mani Poudyal.
According to a PHSC member, Dinesh Bhusal, Bishnu Samari and Surendra Bhattarai had submitted separate complaints through email most of which were targeted at Upadhyay. The government on September 1 had recommended Upadhyay and Paudyal as Nepal’s ambassadors to India and China respectively.
In his complaint, Bhusal has claimed that Upadhyay played foul against the government and worked to tarnish the country’s image. Upadhyay, who was appointed the ambassador to India by the Sushil Koirala-led government, was recalled by the KP Sharma Oli-led government.
Similarly, Samari has claimed that Upadhyay did not take any initiative to pressure the Indian government for lifting the border blockade, rather his role itself was “suspicious”. Another complainer Bhattarai said that Upadhyay rather worked as a party cadre than as a diplomat. “He is mostly likely to work on the behest of his party once again. Therefore, his nomination has to be withdrawn,” reads the complaint, according to a PHSC member requesting anonimity. Bhattarai has also demanded an investigation into property details of both the ambassadorial candidates.
The copies of the complaints were distributed to all the committee members at the meeting on Wednesday. The PHSC has called all the
complainers and the nominees for a hearing scheduled on Monday.
