CIAA Spokesperson Ganesh Raj Karki told the Post that intensive investigation was undergoing after the anti-graft body announced accelerating the probe on the alleged corruption in distribution of perks to the Maoist combatants when they were housed at different cantonments until 2012.
“Our investigative officers are looking into related documents available with the CIAA regarding the case,” said Karki. “If we find any inadequacy in them, we
will seek further details from concerned ministries and offices.”
Upon studying these documents, the CIAA plans to call those involved in decision making on perk distribution to the ex-Maoist combatants which included many senior CPN (Maoist Centre) leaders for interrogation.
Although the CIAA had planned to seek further details from the government agencies from Tuesday, Karki said that the anti-graft body already possessed enough details to pursue the investigation.
The CIAA spokesperson, however, declined to comment on the reported conversation between PM Dahal and CIAA chief Karki over the investigation into the issue of misappropriation of cantonment funds. Dahal reportedly told senior leaders at a recent meeting that CIAA chief Lokman Singh Karki would not move the investigation forward. The anti-graft body had announced on September 16 that it would expedite the probe into the issue on the same day when the Supreme Court decided to review the legality of appointment of Karki as the CIAA chief commissioner.
