Outage hours to be reduced during Dashain

- Post Report, Kathmandu
The state-owned power utility says it is planning to reduce loadshedding hours by two hours from Oct 8 to Oct 15

Sep 25, 2016-The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has said it is planning to reduce loadshedding hours in the Capital during the Dashain festival.

Officials at the NEA said loadshedding hours will be decreased by a maximum of two hours a day from Phulpati (October 8) to Kojagrat Purnima (October 15).

Currently, the country faces loadshedding of 46 hours a week.

“The industries will remain closed during the festival and this can save the consumption of electricity,” said Bishnu Prasad Shrestha, chief at Load Dispatch Centre of the NEA, adding that water levels in the river too have increased of late.

“We are in testing phase of 25MW of electricity from Upper Marsyangdi Hydropower Project. It will start generating 50MW of electricity before Dashain,” said Shrestha. “This will also help in reducing outage hours.”

The Upper Marsyangdi Hydropower Project is being constructed in Bhulbhule of Lamjung district.
