All the member countries of Saarc have agreed to cooperate on capacity building by the way of sharing their expertise on the subjects related to suicide terrorism, counter radicalisation, drugs trafficking and cyber security.
Such agreement was reached in the second meeting of High Level Group Eminent Experts to strengthen Saarc Anti-Terrorism Mechanism that concluded on Friday.
The two-day meeting in New Delhi discussed the issues of terrorism and the measures to strengthen the anti-terrorism mechanism in the region, according to Press Information Bureau of India.
The member countries discussed about fine-tuning the mechanism by improving and sharing regional monitoring systems, real time exchange of information, capacity building through training of human resources and early ratification of the relevant Saarc conventions. India has hosted first meeting in February 16, 2012.
Also discussed during the meeting were issues related to drugs trafficking, financing of terrorism and cyber crimes. The member countries shared their national experiences on various legislations related to counter terrorism.
“All member countries of Saarc agreed to bring into operation the Saarc Terrorist Offences Monitoring Desk and the Saarc Drugs Offences Monitoring Desk to step up efforts to combat terrorism,” the PIB said in a statement.
Other issues like corruption and money laundering, which are also considered to be contributing towards terror financing—were also brought up for discussions.
