Chair Oli’s ‘shaky’ position on India opposed in UML
CPN-UML leaders have criticised party Chairman and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli for being inconsistent in his views on relations with India.CPN-UML leaders have criticised party Chairman and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli for being inconsistent in his views on relations with India.
Oli had often claimed in UML meetings that relations with India had improved following his visit to New
Delhi as the PM in February. But in the political document presented to the party’s ongoing Central Committee meeting, Oli notes that Kathmandu’s relations with Delhi were still frosty. He blames his ouster from the PM’s post on the “soured relations” with India.
The meeting, which concludes on Tuesday, has endorsed the document with some changes. A 10-point special proposal on party unity was approved on Saturday.
According to Ghanashyam Bhusal, deputy general secretary of the party, the UML had yet to take the decisions of the party’s latest general convention to the grassroots, leaving the party rank and file in an ideological dilemma.
The general convention elected the leadership from one faction and endorsed the ideology of the other faction, he said. Bhusal, who tabled a separate political paper in the meeting, has accused the UML establishment of fuelling factionalism in the party.
