Put into bat first after Gurkhas skipper Basanta Regmi won the toss, Rhinos could only muster 124-8. But the total turned out to be enough as Kantipur were restricted for 113-4 in 20 overs. Rhinos were indebted to No 6 batsman Sompal Kami for the total.
Kami came to the crease with his team struggling at 52-4 in the 10th over. He struck Gurkhas bowlers all over the park to help put on a total that ultimately turned out to be the winning ones.
Kami, who later walked away with man-of-the-match award, struck a swift 44 runs, clobbering four sixes in his 30-ball innings. Opener Shubhendu Pandey was the next best scorer for Rhinos with 21. Skipper Regmi was pick of the Gurkhas bowlers with 3-20, while Lalit Rajbanshi took two and Lalit Singh Bhandari one wicket.
The regular fall of wickets cost Gurkhas dear as half their team was back in the pavilion with scores at 59-5 by the 12th over. Sandeep Jhoro ignited hopes of revival with a fiery 42-run knock. But Jhora hardly got any support from the other end as Gurkhas were eventually restricted to 113-8.
Jhora slammed two sixes and as many boundaries in his 28-ball knock. Anil Sah also contributed 28 runs. Prem Tamang, Pawan Sharraf and Shakti Gauchan took two wickets each for Rhinos.
