Police arrested Deepak Kumar Shah, owner of Worldwide Consultancy, who had been repeatedly gulling students with false promises of college admission. Shah would use his aide Ganesh Adhikari to lure students and dupe them.
Metropolitan Police Crime Division said it launched an investigation after a parent filed a complaint that the consultancy owner had been demanding Rs200,000 with assurance that he would get her daughter through the Kathmandu University entrance examination held on October 1.
The girl, who was appearing in the test, was approached by Adhikari who assured her that she would easily pass the entrance. The girl then approached her mother, who upon verifying with other people, learnt that it is not possible to pass the entrance through back door.
“The mother then filed a fraud case against Adhikari,” said SP Sahakul Bahadur Thapa, spokesperson for the division. “We deployed our plain-clothed team along with the mother and arrested Adhikari after he took a cheque from her,” said SP Thapa. During a police interrogation, Adhikari revealed that he was working on behalf of Shah. Based on Adhikari’s statement, police arrested Shah from his Teku-based consultancy.
Shah has been faking his identity claiming to be a medical doctor, SP Thapa said.
