According to the Chief District Officer Narayan Bhatta, the NFC has been transporting the rice by overland till Salyantar in Dhading before airlifting it to Sirdibash and Machhikhola food depots in northern Gorkha.
The rice meant for northern Gorkha was stuck in warehouse in the district headquarters after the Manaslu foot trail was heavily damaged by landslides triggered by the 2015 earthquakes.
International organisations like Care, Oxfam and Save the Children are assisting the NFC in the process.
Bhatta said they decided to supply the rice in helicopters in view of the upcoming festivals.
He also assured that no surcharges will be added to the cost of the rice transported by air.
