Flood scare in Darchula
Officials say there is no immediate flood threat to Bangabagad, a village close to India’s DharchulaDebris from a landslide in Pithoragarh of Dharchula, India, have partially obstructed Mahakali River, causing a build-up in the water pressure towards Nepal’s side in Bangabagad village of Darchula district.
The residents of Bangabagad are worried about possible flood because of Tuesday morning’s landslide. People are scared because the landslide has not stopped, said Keshar Singh Karki, a local.
However, the District Disaster Management Committee has said that there is no immediate threat to Bangabagad after inspecting the landslide.
The embankment project in Bangabagad, which was halted in view of monsoon, has not resumed yet.
The embankment construction was initiated in the wake of the devastating Mahakali flood three years ago in which at least 12 people were killed.
