The road is open for one-way traffic after a massive landslide triggered by heavy rains blocked the section for 10 hours on Wednesday.
Ramesh Shrestha, Inspector of the Area Police Office, Abukhaireni, said bulldozers are clearing landslide debris from the road to resume two-way traffic. “There are still long queues of vehicles on both sides as the dozers are clearing the debris,” said Shrestha.
Hundreds of people headed home for Dashain have been stranded due to the highway obstruction. Amar Adhikari, a passenger, said many people spent the night at lodges in Muglin, Kurintar and Abukhaireni on Wednesday.
The landslide had damaged a 100-metre stretch, said police.
