Five dead as boat capsizes in Maikhola
At least five people died on Friday afternoon when a crowded wooden boat capsized in flooded Maikhola River in Mahamai of Ilam district. Two men, as many women and a child were found dead till Friday evening, according to police. However, locals said at least eight people had died in the incident.bookmark

At least five people died on Friday afternoon when a crowded wooden boat capsized in flooded Maikhola River in Mahamai of Ilam district. Two men, as many women and a child were found dead till Friday evening, according to police. However, locals said at least eight people had died in the incident.
Inspector Rudra Chudal said three of the deceased have been identified as Jas Bahadur Rai, 75, Dambar Maya Magar, 45, and Pabitra Paudel, 39, of Mahamai. Identities of two others were yet to be ascertained. Police said 34 people were rescued. The incident site lies between Mahamai and Danabari. Survivors said there were around 45-50 people on board the boat.
