Birgunj is reeling with acute shortage of blood. Dhirendra Jha of Blood Transfusion Centre said the situation emerged because there has not been any blood donation programmes since October 5. Since no one donated their blood during the Dashain holidays, he said, the centre has been unable to meet the blood demand.
There is a high demand for B Positive and O Positive blood groups. The centre currently has only 46 pints of A Positive blood and two pints of AB Positive blood to offer. Jha said the shortage could stretch for a few more days because there is no blood donation programme scheduled until October 22.
