Litterbugs beware: KMC may be on to you

Rabin Man Shrestha, chief of the KMC Environment Division, said the metropolis raised Rs 71,000 in fines from the people who were found guilty of disposing of garbage at undesignated areas in places like Kalimati, Thapathali, Balaju Chabahil and Kuleshwor. The KMC will heighten the monitoring in the coming Tihar festival, Shreshta said. Twenty staff have been assigned on litterbug monitoring duty.
Shrestha said the metropolis will particularly be keeping an eye on those areas that see high flow of festival shoppers like Asan and Indrachowk.
The KMC is also planning to make loudspeaker announcement about its campaign to caution people against throwing wastes at undesignated areas.
Meanwhile, the KMC has requested the citizens to notify about garbage problem in their areas by calling its office or through the mobile app, Cleanktm.
The metropolis is offering round the clock cleaning service, Shrestha said.
