No new agenda has been discussed as of now, Foreign Secretary Sankar Das Bairagi told the Post. “We have to ascertain the agenda from our side.”
During Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s state visit to India in September, both sides had agreed to hold the meeting at the earliest.
Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat and his Indian counterpart, Sushma Swaraj, will lead the respective delegation at the meeting that will review and assesses the entire guts of bilateral ties and give a directive for the future course.
The meeting will also explore ways to iron out disputed issues, including expediting the India-funded projects in Nepal and setting up a joint mechanism at government level that is tasked to monitor their progress. The JC meeting will discuss on preparing a time-bound plan to complete the pending projects.
Both Dahal and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had agreed to expedite the pending projects through a bilateral monitoring mechanism.
The meeting, originally scheduled for August 20-22 in New Delhi, was cancelled after a change of government in Nepal.
The third JC meeting was held in Kathmandu in 2014 after a hiatus of 23 years.
The JC is the highest bilateral body at foreign minister level that aims to review Nepal-India relations in the areas of political and security issues, trade and investment cooperation, water resources and power, connectivity, development assistance and education and culture.
