Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of the Nepal Police’s special bureau on terrorism and the Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office Kathmandu had conducted the operation to nab the armed cadres.
Gang leader Upendra Gharti Magar and cadres Prithvi Narayan Limbu, Tendi Sherpa, Sachin Limbu, Subas Rai and Nabin Shrestha are among those arrested.
Five of them were caught in Rolpa district, two in Sindhupalchok, and the rest in Kathmandu Valley, police said.
According to DIG Bam Bahadur Bhandari, they were held with four pistols, explosives and documents. They were planning to rob banks, passenger buses, and jewellery shops and attack police posts.
DIG Bhandari said the force was involved in criminal activities under the guise of a political group.
“They were carrying out criminal activities and conducting military training,” he said.
