The Central Level Project Implementation Unit under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development has published the list of 90,888 households from Kathmandu Valley eligible for the home rebuilding aid.

Out of the 14 districts worst affected by the earthquake, survivors from only 11 districts have received the first tranche of the housing aid worth Rs50,000 in the first phase. Families rendered homeless in the three Valley districts had been left for the second phase of aid distribution. The list of the eligible households verified by the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) was forwarded to the district project implementation units on Sunday, directing the municipalities and wards concerned to start signing agreements and complete distribution of cash before the start of Tihar early next week.

“We have forwarded the list of verified households from 359 wards in the Valley to the local implementation units and asked them to start the process immediately,” said Ganesh Raj Osti, project director of the Central Project Implementation Unit. He, however, said the local authorities including municipalities and wards responsible for initiating tripartite agreements have not started the process citing technical problems.

According to Osti, the local implementation units established in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur were asked to start the process and finish the distribution by the end of this week. “We will follow up on Wednesday,” he added.

The Magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck the country on April 25 last year causing significant damage to life and properties in 14 districts. The distribution of the first phase of the rebuilding aid started in April this year in the 11 districts.
