NC in favour of impeachment: Sitaula
Oct 28, 2016-
Nepali Congress leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula has said his party is in favour of the impeachment proposal filed against Lokman Singh Karki, the suspended chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority.
“Remarks of our party members in Parliament clearly show that the Congress stands in favour of impeachment,” the former NC general secretary told a party programme in Kavre on Thursday. NC lawmakers, addressing the House meeting on Tuesday, spoke in favour of the proposal.
The largest party in Parliament is yet to come up with an official position on the impeachment motion. The NC Parliamentary Party will take a decision to this effect, say leaders.
NC leader Ram Sharan Mahat said the party would not take a “haphazard” decision that would affect Lokman’s probe by the parliamentary committee. “We will wait for the committee’s recommendations before coming up with an official stance.”
NC youth leader Pradip Poudel said his party would vote for impeachment. “But we are upset that the largest party was kept in the dark while registering the impeachment motion,” said Poudel.
As many as 157 lawmakers from the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the CPN-UML registered the impeachment motion against Karki in Parliament last week.
