Wagging Tails, an event that focused on the health and well-being of dogs, took place at Coffee and Cupcakes, in Pulchowk, Lalitpur, on October 29. The event, organised by Vootoo Entertainment, marked Kukur Tihar, the second day of the festival of lights.
Although the popularity of dogs as pets is on the rise in the Capital, the organisers said that most dog owners are yet to be fully aware of the basic needs of their pets and that this can invite a host of unwelcome complexities on the pets’ and the owners’ part. With the event, the organisers aimed to raise awareness among the pet owners.
“Naturally, some dogs can be aggressive to other dogs and even to the owners. For those owners who have yet to be aware of the behaviour of their pets, it can be terribly hard to deal with,” noted one of the organisers, Ashutosh Shrestha, “To tackle the problem, we, with this event, provided advice and techniques to deal with the pets’ behavioural problems.”
The event also included full ear- and gland-cleaning of the pets, while, a session hosted by dog behaviourist Abhilasha Sharma
dealt with dog training, where the owners were provided with specific techniques to tackle behaviourial problem in pets. The event also featured an overall physical examination by veterinary physician Dr Pranav Joshi.
The event featured a variety of species of dogs such as Labradors, Retrievers, Pugs, Dalmatians, Boxers and Lhasa Apso. Some handicapped dogs were also treated at the event.
“We celebrate Kukur Tihar every year but never truly consider the well-being of the pets; this event will, hopefully, make not only the owners but also the dogs aware of how much we love them,” noted organisers.
The event ended with a communal Kukur Puja.
