At the programme organised on the occasion of the 108th birth anniversary and the Tihar and Chhath festivals, poets Maheshwor Khanal and Ratnanidhi Regmi Shukracharya recited their creations dedicated to the Mahakavi. On the occasion, two books titled ‘Geetasar’ (the gist of the Geeta) by Khanal and ‘Asal bidhyarthi kasari banne’ (how to become a good student) were released. At another programme also held on Sunday to mark the Poet Laureate’s birth anniversary, Deputy Prime Minister Bimalendra Nidhi said creations by Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota have also made a significant contribution to the promotion of national unity and integrity. Addressing the programme, Nidhi said the government was working with a focus on the agenda of constitution amendment. Peace, stability and prosperity were not possible without holding elections at all three levels, he said. Pledging to take special efforts to maintain unity and increase closeness among the people of mountain, hills and Tarai, he said youths could significantly contribute to such efforts.
Parties lobby for one municipality, 8 village councils
Dolakha: The local political parties have agreed on recommending one municipality and eight village councils in Dolakha as part of the state restructuring process. During a meeting, the parties agreed on sending a recommendation to the State Restructuring Commission for the reshuffle. The Jiri Municipality comprising Jiri, Mali and Thulopatal VDCs will now be turned into a village council with induction of additional VDCs. The parties are yet to decide on the demarcation of the border, wards and the centre of the councils and have reached a consensus on taking a decision in this regard at a meeting on November 4. The commission had earlier provisioned for seven municipalities and village councils for which the political parties failed to agree on prompting district level technical support committee to recommend nine village councils pending consent from all quarters. The latest instruction had called for delineating seven to 11 councils. (RSS)
Man found dead
KHOTANG: A 40-year-old man from Diktel, the district headquarters of Khotang, was found dead on Sunday. Deputy Superintendent of Police Nabin Kishwor Pradhan said Chakra Bahadur Khatri of Diktel-5 was found dead on the bank of the Chhakalung stream. Pradhan’s body was taken to Diktel Hospital for postmortem. (PR)
Properties worth Rs5 m destroyed in house fire
BIRATNAGAR: Properties worth nearly Rs 5 million were destroyed when a house caught fire at Damak-19 in Jhapa district on Saturday. The fire destroyed the house belonging to Tejnath Dahal, said police. Police suspect that the fire may have been caused by electrical short circuit. (PR)
