Police capture main accused of Itahari shootout
Nov 4, 2016-
Police have arrested the main accused of Tuesday’s shootout in Itahari that left two persons injured.
The District Police Office Sunsari made public Hari Bista along with his accomplices Prashant Karki and Ankit Kumar Singh at a press meet on Thursday. The security personnel nabbed Karki and Singh immediately after the incident, while absconding Bista was arrested on Wednesday.
Hotel owner Jangaman Rai and Torna Bahadur Poudel of Dhankuta were injured when a man staying in the Tarahara-based hotel incognito shot at them on Tuesday morning.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Naresh Raj Subedi, Bista shot at Poudel on the orders of one Badri Rijal. A preliminary investigation suggests Poudel and Rijal’s fathers are timber traders in the area.
DSP Subedi said Karki assisted in hiding the suspect after the incident, while Singh abetted him to buy pistol used in the crime. The security personnel recovered a pistol, two empty magazines, five bullets and a knife from the arrestees.
Police claimed Bista, a permanent resident of Nepaledanda-9 in Bhojpur, had been on the run after shooting at Prakash Khatri in another incident on October 8.
