Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat on Saturday said the Nepali Congress had taken a leading role in implementing the constitution.
Speaking at a programme organised by the NC’s youth wing Nepal Tarun Dal, Mahat said the constitution was being amended to address the demands of some disgruntled parties. The government was in consultation with the main opposition and other political parties, he added.
Stating that foreign aid was essential for the country’s development, Mahat said he was actively working to bring in foreign investment. Blaming the politicisation of foreign policy for the “weakened” diplomatic community in Nepal, the minister said he had requested neighbouring countries to respect Nepal’s national interest.
In a different context, the minister said Chinese President Xi Jinping would visit Nepal soon.
