Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has stressed the need for passing the impeachment motion registered in Parliament against Lokman Singh Karki.Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has stressed the need for passing the impeachment motion registered in Parliament against Lokman Singh Karki.
“For the sake of democracy, we have no option but to approve impeachment of the suspended chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority,” the PM said on Monday.
“Top leaders of the major political parties are in favour of approving the motion. We’re doing internal homework on that,” the PM told a delegation of human rights activists. “We made Karki the CIAA chief in the past due to the circumstances, which can be evaluated later.”
He said the government was trying to build political consensus in order to pass the motion, Dahal said, claiming that other major parties were also in favour of removing Karki from office.
The team of rights activists led by Krishna Pahadi demanded mention of ‘non-violence’ in the preamble to the constitution. Another demand of them was barring individuals convicted of human rights violation from appointment to any public post.
The rights activists also asked the government to create an atmosphere for holding the local polls.
