‘I didn’t meet any Tibetan leader in Goa’
You met Indian PM Narendra Modi. What were the key matters of discussion? You met Indian PM Narendra Modi. What were the key matters of discussion?
The meeting with Prime Minister Modi was very positive, cordial and candid. We discussed about reconstruction of the infrastructure in Nepal after the deadly earthquake of last year. Modi assured full support from India in our reconstruction efforts.
Was there any discussion regarding the political developments in Nepal?
I informed Modi about the efforts being made to address the demands of the Madhes-based parties through constitution amendment. He advised us to implement the constitution in the spirit of national consensus and unity. He was of the view that the parties should unite all sections of the people while implementing the constitution.
How was your visit to India?
The visit has been very fruitful. There is a special goodwill of India towards Nepal and the Nepali people. I also met India’s national security adviser and other leaders and officials here. My visit has helped strengthen our already cordial relations.
There are reports that you met some Tibetan leaders in exile. Is that true?
This is totally false and fabricated. Nepal is firm on its One-China Policy. There are no doubts that Tibet is an integral part of China. I am fully committed to it. I did not meet any Tibetan leader there. I just participated in the inaugural session of the programme and returned to Delhi.
Let’s talk about Nepal’s internal political situation. There is a delay in registering an amendment proposal to address the demands of the Madhes-based parties. When it will happen?
A constitution amendment bill will be registered soon after I return to Kathmandu.
But the CPN-UML is against amending the constitution. How will you convince the main opposition party?
I am fully confident that the UML will support the amendment proposal. The UML should be ready to address the aspirations of the Madhesi people for sustainable peace.
Were there any discussions with the Indian side about the impeachment of the suspended CIAA chief?
The issue did not figure in the meeting.
When will the NC take an official decision on impeachment?
The Parliamentary Party meeting of the Nepali Congress will take a decision on it.
