Nidhi told the agitating parties that the government was in consultation with all concerned parties and constitutional experts to draft the amendment proposal.
Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party Chairman Mahanta Thakur said that DPM Nidhi had assured them that the government would come up with the proposal within a few days. “The amendment proposal would be tabled before Kartik-end. The final draft would be readied with a few days,” Thakur quoted Nidhi as saying. At a meeting with Morcha leaders earlier this month, PM Dahal had also pledged to table an amendment proposal before deadline.
Later in the day, DPM Nidhi told reporters that the government was working to amend the constitution and conduct the election on the given time.
“The government plans to table a proposal before the House, seeking an amendment to the constitution by mid-November,” Nidhi said, adding that appropriate changes would be made in the constitution based on the spirit of provision enlisted in the interim constitution to resolve disputed issues related to the citizenship, boundaries of provinces and formation of the National Assembly.
