‘Govt hasn’t declared outage-free Valley’

- Post Report, Kathmandu

Nov 11, 2016-

Energy Minister Janardan Sharma has said the government has not made any announcement that Kathmandu Valley has been freed from power cuts. He, however, said the ongoing trial of making the Valley load shedding-free will continue.

Discussions are underway to determine possible alternative power sources and to import additional electricity from India, he said at an interaction here on Thursday.

In the evening, the Valley consumes some 300MW of electricity. During off-peak hours in the morning and night, the demand goes down by up to 50 percent, he said.

Refuting rumours that NEA is providing regular power supply to the Capital by increasing load-shedding hours outside the Valley, he said construction of Chameliya, Kulekhani III and the Upper Trishuli 3 ‘A’ hydropower projects are going on in full swing.
