The annual programme of volleyball’s governing body will see 32 teams – 16 in each category – fighting for the title. The top three finishers in both categories will receive Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000, informed the organisers during a press conference on Friday. The tournament will be played at the river bank of Sunkoshi.
“We had previously organised beach volleyball tournaments in artificial court but this time the tournament will give a real sense of beach volleyball. We are expecting an exciting contest where the participants will compete in a typical beach environment,” said NVA General Secretary Jitendra Bahadur Chand.
Kavre District Volleyball Association (KDVA) President Tirtha Shrestha said he was privileged to bring a national competition in the district. “We are glad to host a tournament under the auspices of NVA. We can ensure that the National Beach Volleyball will be one of the best sports competitions in Kavre and we are eagerly looking forward to it,” said Shrestha.
The tournament will be participated in by five development regions – Eastern, Central, Western, Mid-western and Far-western Regions – along with departmental teams Nepal Police Club, Tribhuvan Army and Nepal Armed Police Force Club with each side fielding two teams. APF are the defending champions in both the categories.
