The Nepali Congress leaders have urged the party cadres to concentrate their efforts towards holding the three-tier elections which are crucial for constitution implementation.
Addressing the inaugural session of the fourth national general convention of the party’s youth wing, Nepal Tarun Dal, underway in Pokhara, the NC leaders spoke on the importance of constitution implementation for institutionalising democracy.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, who inaugurated the convention, said the party was firmly committed to the implementation of the constitution by making necessary amendments to include all groups and communities.
Claiming that the country’s economic growth was only possible under the NC’s leadership, Deuba urged the party’s youths to make an all-out effort to make NC the number one party.
The NC president also asked the convention participants to elect a new leadership based on consensus.
NC senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel pointed out the urgency of improved unity within the party.
He also underlined the need for the amendment to the constitution in a way that would not hurt national unity and sovereignty.
Poudel stressed on attaining economic prosperity and development through agriculture revolution, tourism and energy sector.
NC General Secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala said a united NC has the strength to address the challenges facing the country.
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bimalendra Nidhi said development was possible only through the path of non-violence and peace.
Party leader Prakash Man Singh expressed his confidence that the Tarun Dal convention would impart message to the NC to get united and help pave way for political stability in the country.
Krishna Sitaula, former NC general secretary, highlighted the need to steer the country ahead towards the path of economic prosperity while retaining the political achievements made through the people’s struggle.
Bal Krishna Khand, minister for defence and former president of Tarun Dal; Sitadevi Yadav, NC treasurer and minister for peace and reconstruction; and Hridayaram Thami, minister for poverty alleviation, called on the Tarun Dal to dedicate themselves towards economic development of the country.
The former Tarun Dal president trio Binod Kayastha, Mahadev Gurung and Mahendra Yadav; the incumbent president of Tarun Dal, Udaya Shamsher Rana; and the chairperson of Nepal Women’s Association, Uma Regmi, stressed on enhanced leadership and political role of the youths in the party.
As many as 1,400 delegate members from 73 districts are participating in the three-day general convention.
