The decision was taken following a meeting between the members of the Advisory Group and ICC representatives Ammar Sheikh and Imran Khawaja. While Pandey served as the president in the previous committee of the CAN, Chaudhary is a businessman.
Nepali cricket has been without a governing body after the ICC suspended the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on April 25 saying it was in a state of leadership vacuum due to the dual existence of the cricket governing body.
After a panel from the Tanka Aangbuhang committee formed a new body without consent from NSC in December last year, the country’s supreme body of sports had responded by forming an ad-hoc committee on February 26. The dispute went to the ICC which decided to suspend the membership of the CAN before it formed the Advisory Group preparing certain mandate for them.
The six-member Advisory Group also consists of Youth and Sports Ministry Joint Secretary Choodamani Poudel, former CAN Acting President Deepak Koirala, NSC Advisor Rohit Dahal and former national team skipper Pawan Agarwal. Dahal is named the spokesperson and Agarwal is the secretary.
Agarwal said Tuesday’s decision will allow the Group to work in an organised way adding it will work in the initial mandate of drafting a new constitution of the CAN. “The two coordinators have been appointed to look after drafting of the new constitution in the cricket governing body and ways to operate the body,” Agarwal said.
ICC has long been stressing in transforming CAN into a board, an interest it made clear during ICC Chief Executive David Richardson’s visit in September. Agarwal added that the Group is currently not entitled to look after cricket’s domestic structure and cricket teams’ international participation.
Bhawana Ghimire, a former Chief Executive Officer, of CAN is currently liaising with the ICC in Nepal’s participation in international tournaments.
