The Asia Cup is slated for December 8-22 in Sri Lanka where Nepal will lock horns against Test-playing giants India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh along with Associate sides Afghanistan, Malaysia and Singapore.
While Lamichhane is current playing Australian Grade Cricket for Michael Clarke’s Western Suburbs in Sydney, Shiekh shot to fame during the recently concluded Everest Premier League where he upstaged big names hitting a century in the final.
Lamichhane was among the seven U-19 camp players picked up along with Dipendra Airee, Sandeep Sunar, Lalit Rajbanshi, Avinash Karn, Nandan Kumar Yadav, Sagar Bhandari and Kamal Airee. Lamichhane, Dipendra and Sunar were part of the team that competed in the 2016 U-19 World Cup in Bangladesh.
The players were selected by 12 coaches following a round of talent hunt in Kathmandu, Dhangadi, Nepalgunj, Biratnagar, Bhai-rahawa and Kalaiya. Mukunda Yadav, Sandeep Dhungana and Firdosh Ansari were picked up from Biratnagar.
Sheikh was one of the nine players from Kalaiya to be selected along with Anil Sah, Aschal Tharu Chaudhary, Rijan Dhakal, Rashid Khana, Pawan Sharraf, Samsad Alam, Mohammad Hussein and Divyanshu Malik. Also making the cut were Rit Gautam, Jitendra Singh Thakuri, Pradeep Tandon, Sandeep Jhora, Aayushman Bam, Pranay Shah, Kamal Khatri, Palden Lama and Shuvankar Urao from Kathmandu.
Suman Pandey, Rohit Poudel, Dev Khanal, Prakash KC, Kishor Mahato, Dhiraj Shahi, Shah Alam and Bikram Bhushal were taken from Bhairahawa, while Ravindra Shahi, Sushant Singh Thapa, Pranit Thapa Magar, Bijay Chaudhary and Afzal Khan were named from Nepalgunj.
Dhangadi had Lokesh Chand, Bhim Sarki, Roman Bam, Arjun Saud, Suraj Ayer, Bipin Rawal, Anil Kumar Thapa, Bikram Thagunna, Anil Biswakarma and Aman Panthi selected.
