A musical gig that will present a unique synthesis of Nepali and Swiss gypsy jazz is going to be held at Moksh, in Lalipur, on Friday, November 25. The concert, part of the Capsul project, will feature Swiss gypsy jazz ensemble Capsul and Nepali jazz artist Hari Maharjan, performing original tracks from their upcoming album, Chhoto Mitho.
The Capsul project, an initiative by Swiss and Nepali gypsy jazz musicians, plans to release the album Choto Mitho, in June, 2017.
Speaking to the post about the project, Nepal’s only gypsy jazz artist, Hari Maharjan said, “The project is an effort to bring Swiss and Nepali styles together for jazz lovers. All the songs in the album are sung by Alice Richtarch from Capsul in part French and part English but are mostly paired with traditional Nepali instruments: we have used flutes, tabala, sarangi and sitar, to give the songs a distinct Nepali touch.” Along with arranging the music, Maharjan has also composed two songs for the album.
Speaking about the album, the vocalist of Capsul, Alice Richtarch, said, “The album is a result of the great journey that we have had in Nepal while performing intermittently in the last three years. Whenever we visit Nepal, we have to make do with very limited time, but it was nonetheless
a really good and intense experience, and this album, as the title implies, is a collection of short and sweet memories and experiences that we had here.”
The Capsul will also perform at various venues in Switzerland along with Nepali musicians after the release of the album next year.
