Naya Shakti Nepal coordinator Baburam Bhattarai has said that there is no point protesting against the government plan of constitution amendment. 

The people should not join the protests against the amendment as it is a ploy by some political forces to  fulfil their long-term election motives, he said at a press meet in Rupandehi on Thursday.

“Political parties should amend the constitution at the earliest based on the reports prepared by the State Restructuring Commission and the Constituent Assembly’s State Restructuring Committee,” Bhattarai said.

The issue of national interest has always been undermined by some political forces whose only goal is to fulfil their own interests, the former Maoist leader said. 

“The controversy over division plan for Province 5 was unnecessarily hyped,” he added. 

Bhattarai had arrived in Rupandehi to participate in a condolence ceremony of lawmaker Bhakti Pandey. CPN-UML leader Subas Nembang and CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Barshaman Pun also attended the condolence meet.
